Packaging Cost savings
Most companies have their own unique structure and method of Packaging Development. One common factor is probably the speed at which they have to react - it's normally fast. Once a pack and product is successfully launched and in production the energy within a company often moves to the next brand or launch.
These two points illustrate why a cost savings project is often appropriate for many companies.
When you develop packs fast, the tendency is to play safe with some elements of the pack design. Therefore the pack is possibly over specified.
When the emphasis is always on the next project there is often no time to take a retrospective look at the packaging being used.
It's true that if you have your own Packaging specialists they should be able to look at your specifications as a whole and come up with some cost saving idea's. This of course is if they have the time!
Therefore it is often appropriate to employ an outside company or individual to make an independent assessment of the Packaging in use.
A typical cost savings project consists of 3 phases:
-
On site Survey and analysis
to identify potential cost savings and implications of change
Includes:
technical assessment of packs - including structure & print
conversion and process analysis
work flow analysis
innovation where appropriate
distribution improvements (cube analysis)
you v's the competition
-
Evaluation of solutions
set up trials, establish specifications and detailed costs
-
Implementation
assistance with implementation within your environment
